Friends in My Thoughts

Hey there and happy Monday!  I'm back with the rest of the Friends of Speedy TV for this weeks' challenge.  We are making cards for in honor of Memorial Day.  In my mind, Memorial Day honors those we have lost during their service to our country and it is a time to remember those in our lives we have lost.  Obviously, I can't send a card to those who are gone from me...but I can make a card with those folks in mind.  It was quite therapeutic to do so, as well.  I did some reverse masking to get the job done today.  I trimmed my mask to the A2 size and then die cut a 2 inch square (for this week's One Layer Wednesday challenge) from the mask.  I used some removable adhesive around the outside of the square, applied my mask and created my focal point.  Afterwards, I removed my mask and bits of leftover adhesive and then stamped my sentiment.

I hope you are able to play along and throw your hat into the ring for this week's prize.  The stamp set you can win is called Hello Trucks

I'm happy to start a new week.  I am hoping it will head back to normal.  I was gone for 3 1/2 days last week due to my hubby's surgery, my daughter's fever and a training at work.  Combine that with transporting my girlfriend's son (which I totally don't mind) and orchestrating a birthday party, makes for a hairy week.  I'm a creature of habit, pattern and ritual, so I have been a bit out of sorts.  I'm hoping for an improvement in my mojo and a bit more creative time.  I'll leave you with a picture of the newly six year old in my house.  Thanks for stopping by!

Check out Speedy Fox!  I think he forgot his sunscreen!

I saw this luscious colored Mark's Finest Papers card stock and had to go with it.  The color was warm and tropical, so I opted for sun and sea!  I punched my sun and stamped it with the dotted ric rac.  I sponged in some rays and stamped my sea.  I trimmed a piece of vellum and got my sentiment on it.  This card makes me think of my latest vacation to Florida to visit my sister.  I had several glorious days of sunshine.  If she wasn't flying home in less than two weeks, I would send this to her.

Thanks for stopping in!  Be sure to head to Tangii's blog to see what fabulous creation she has for you today!

For today's card, I found a little inspiration in a picture of some new bathroom rugs a crafty friend of mine, Michelle, posted on Facebook.  I immediately saw the sketch potential and then went along with the yummy colors.  I didn't want to alter the sketch a bit, so I left off a sentiment.  I used the three different sized leaves in three different inks to decorate the six panels.  A few brads finishes off the simple note card.

Here is Latte posing on the new bathroom rug!
Thanks for stopping by and don't forget to see what Tangii has posted for you today!

Believe it or not, this card was inspired by a different sentiment in this new set.  I started off with the Go...Fish! sentiment and wanted to make a playing card.  I cut my focal image to the size of a playing card (2 1/2 by 3 1/2), rounded my corners and set to sponging and stamping.  I used a single word where the numbers or letters might go on a playing card.  When I had my image finished, the card felt more like a Father's Day card, so I went with my gut!

I immediately went for the single daisy image when I first saw this set.  I found the most beautiful purple daisies when I was looking on line and did my best to replicate them here.  I have to say that I love that little lady perched on the leaf.  I love her so much that I colored and cut another one out to crawl up on my sentiment!  I don't know about you, but sweet little lady bugs seem to be the herald of spring around here.  They start to appear in most of my window sills (did I mention that I live in an old house?) every year as spring approaches.  My little girl just loves them.  Incidentally, she informed me just last week that lady bugs are beetles.  Kindergarten has been very informative for this Mommy!

Thanks for stopping by!  Don't forget to stop by and see what Tangii has for you today.

Details - Stamps:  Oopsy Daisy (Mark's Finest Papers); Paper: Sweet Tooth White, Basic Black, In color dp; Ink: Tuxedo Black; Accessories: Nestabilities, Copic Markers, 1 1/4" square punch, glue dot, stampin' dimensionals.

Friends For Piercing

Welcome Monday!  I'm back with another Friends of Speedy TV challenge to do some paper piercing! This week I got out my Pucker Up set and did some coloring with my markers.  Then I pierced around my lemon.  I used a Splitcoast sketch and created a blue background.  I added a little gingham and called it done!

Of course, if you play along with the challenge, there is a prize up for grabs!  This week, a set called Flaps My Wattles will be taken home by the lucky winner.   Here's a look at this fabulous set:

It promises to be a busy week.  Make sure you head back tomorrow for a look at the newest Mark's Finest Papers releases.

Details - Stamps: Pucker Up (MFP); Paper: Sweet White, Basic Black, Pattern Pack III; Ink: Tuxedo Black; Accessories: Black and white gingham ribbon, copic markers, glue dots, mat pack and piercing tool.

Mother's Day and Friends

Happy Monday and welcome to another Friends of Speedy TV challenge.  Since Mother's day is right around the corner, we are all making mother's day cards.  I pulled out a couple of sets to make my card.  First, I used Mother's Magnolias for the fabulous sentiment.  Then I used Daffodil Greetings for my popped up butterfly and all the other butterflies in the background.  I did a lot of distressing on my top panel and then a lot of sponging everywhere else to get an aged look.  I even sponged my ribbon and wrapped it a couple of times around my card to get this look. I finished off the card with some smoky colored rhinestones and a couple of corner rounding punches.  I used the current sketch from retro sketches to get the idea for my card design.

You will definitely want to play along with this week's Friends of Speedy TV challenge, as the wonderful set Mother's Magnolias is up for grabs.  If you haven't seen it, take a peek at this:

Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful day!

So late for my Friends

Whoa!   It's been a long time since I posted.  My life has been very busy with things at work really ramping up.  It happens every year and it always catches me off guard.  One year, I will finally be prepared for it!  However, I am prepared for Teacher Appreciation week, which starts on 05/07/12.  Thanks to this week's Friends of Speedy TV challenge to make a May-themed card.  This card will go to my daughter's kindergarten teacher (who also happens to be my co-worker).  I paired up a couple of fabulous Mark's Finest Papers sets to make this card.  I took the ribbon image from Flaps My Wattles and the sentiment from A Walk in the Woods for my card.  I trimmed out the apple, leave and stem and sponged them with matching inks.  Then I colored on my index finger with my white gel pen and created some "shine" on my apple.  I popped my apple up and called it good.

One more thing before I go, there is a prize up for grabs if you play along with the challenge over at Speedy TV.  It's one of my favorite sets called Pucker Up. Take a look at it.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

Details - Stamps: Flaps My Wattles (MFP), A Walk in the Woods (MFP); Paper: Whisper White, Basic Black, Real Red, Garden Green, Chocolate Chip; Ink: Tuxedo Black, Marina Mist, Real Read, Garden Green; Accessories: paper snips, stampin' sponge, white gel pen, stampin' dimensionals.
